ETCAM #9- Cavanaugh's Wings (Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse)

It really wasn't so long ago that I didn't know about Cavanaugh's. A few weeks back, I was ambling up Sansom, looking for new community living rooms to spend my lunch break in. I passed a couple that looked fucka expensive (wtf is an "American Cookery"? That sounds like a place with filet mignon cheeseburgers with imported kelp buns...I'm good) and some that didn't serve food (come on...why are you open during the day if you don't serve food? At least if a bar serves food, you can pretend to be doing something besides drinking).

After about 4 blocks, I saw it...well, not really. You see, Cavanaugh's is so nondescript I almost didn't know it was a bar. (That's not necessarily a horrible thing...I'm just saying it should be a little flashier so people don't miss a great bar.) But decor be damned...the sign also advertised the daily special: 35 cent wings. Being a lover of wings, this was right up my alley...it sounded lunchable to me.

That was the beginning of a great relationship. Since that fateful day, I've been back a few times and discovered that they have a special every day (and these specials run all day, unlike most bars where its only between certain times)...1/2 price burgers, 1/2 price bar menu, pitcher specials, that kind of shit...as well as a very cute and generally wonderful 'tender, Dani. However, Thursday is wing day, and while Dani and cheap food are worth coming for, the wings are worth staying for. Well, a certain flavor of wings. Yeah they have your standard mild, hot, bbq...but thx to Dani's suggestion, I gambled on a nonstandard one and won big time.

The (plump and juicy...these ain't pizza shop wings, these are the big boys, some of the leg-type pieces rival KFC drumsticks in size) wings you see in the pic are covered in a delicious nectar known as Cavanaugh's sauce. This tangy delight is somewhere between hot and honey bbq, giving them an irresistible sweet heat. There's also a hint of citrus type flavor...it sounds kind of weird, but trust me...if you like wings at all, you will love these. I've never tasted anything like them. Served with a side of ranch dressing, (which is good even on some stuff it's not known for matching with, but that's another post for another time) they make a good lunch/dinner/snack/fourthmeal and should be at any available opportunity.

Long story short, these wings are that work. (Appreciable, and of high quality or value, for the slanguage-illiterate). I pretty much go there every Thursday to take advantage of the deal, end up drinkin 3 beers and paying about $12 total. (Dani sometimes 'forgets' to charge me for a beer or something, but that's because I'm charismatic and likeable...I can't promise results for some of you mafuckas lol...I love you tho, Dani.) It's a good bar even without the wings, what with its relaxing atmosphere, flatscreen TVs galore and wide selection of beer...but it's a great one with them. Cavanaugh's definitely gets my seal of approval...st-stamp!

I finally beat you to a spot! I haven't been there in a while though. Hmmm. I think it's time to revisit.
